I Became the Sun

I used to spin in circles around somebody else’s light

Kept adjusting my orbit just to keep them in sight

Gave away my center so they wouldn’t feel alone

Living like a moon that forgot it had a throne

Then one day I stopped the spinning and I stood still

Felt the pull of my own gravity and bent it to my will

No more chasing someone else’s heat to feel alive

I became the fire and I learned how to survive

They kept telling me to stay in someone else’s sky

But I stepped out of the circle and I learned how to fly

I stopped orbiting, I became the sun!

I don’t need your gravity to know who I’ve become!

I pull my own weight, I shine on my own

I’m the center now, I don’t circle alone!
